Madrid wraps itself with the rainbow flag

Gay Pride is one of Madrid’s most popular festivals. It takes place officially on June 28, a day in which Madrid becomes a reference in diversity and a large party with a positive stance against discrimination that, it must be said, is longer and longer every year!

The shops and streets of Chueca are decorated everywhere with the rainbow flag, a flag which is not about gender or sexual orientation but rather about tolerance and respect and even normalisation, because if this special date is still being celebrated every year it is because some people are still full of prejudices against the LGBTQ community.

The Pride parties will begin on June 28 and the floats parade will be on July 7, a parade which enjoys an increasing number of participants every year including political parties and/or entities. Once again this year, the parade will go from Glorieta de Atocha to Plaza de Colón.

Furthermore, the party schedule is already taking shape, with many outdoor concerts and shows programmed, especially in Chueca, where the whole neighbourhood opens its doors to the festival and becomes the epicentre of Gay Pride, both on a national and international level. Thanks to its success last year, Madrid has become the official home of Gay Pride and it is expected that hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world will come to this year’s edition.

This year, between the 4th and 8th of July, the Madrid WE Pride Festival will also take place, with an events and parties programme planned in different squares and nightclubs in the city for all tastes. The event will start on Wednesday the 4th with the proclamation, which will once again fill the city of Madrid with colour, diversity and joy this summer.
