Sé castizo y atrévete con el rabo de toro

By | 2 May, 2015 | 0 comments

Rabo de toroThe San Isidro Festival takes place on May 15th but the festivities carry on well beyond that date, with bullfights in Las Ventas and restaurants making the most of circumstances and serving what is perhaps the most typical Spanish dish that one could try: oxtail.

In El Cielo de Urrechu, one of the most charismatic restaurants in the region of Madrid (located in Pozuelo de Alarcón), they offer a delicious oxtail with red-wine sauce and seasonal mushrooms that will delight all lovers of this juicy dish. Although it is famous for its Basque avant-garde cuisine, this restaurant inaugurated in 2012 still has space on its menu for this traditional recipe.

Another place that services this exquisite dish is Treze Bar & Restaurante, located in the city of Madrid, on Calle General Pardiñas, 36. It serves an oxtail bun at an excellent price (7 euros) as well as other traditional local recipes.

May is the month for oxtail in Madrid, and this allows many restaurants, like the two aforementioned ones, to offer this dish in a special menu made for this occasion, which includes a starter, a main course that includes oxtail and dessert or coffee for 25 euros + VAT.

Write down some other places where you can eat this delicious dish, such as El Pitaco (Avenida de Badajoz, 25), who adds chopped mushrooms to it; and La Sopa Boba (in Alpedrete), who serves it with cuttlefish. Many other restaurants have traditionally dedicated all their attention to this dish, such as Casa Toribio, very close to Las Ventas bullring; or Casa Salvador, in the heart of Chueca (Calle Barbieri, 21), which gathers that spirit of traditional, unpretentious and authentic Spanish eateries, partly thanks to its red and black checked tablecloths.

Make the most of this taurine time of year and enjoy this exquisite dish. You can try these restaurants or others in the nearby district of La Latina, where you can also find delicious oxtail recipes. Stay at Hotel Puerta de Toledo and enjoy a stay of the highest quality in the centre of Madrid at a reasonable price.
