French cuisine in Madrid

Spain’s neighbouring country to the north has a fantastic gastronomic embassy in the centre of Madrid, in the lively neighbourhood of Chueca. Located on Plaza de Chueca itself, Oh délice! is a deli-restaurant which offers a fantastic range of French products, solid and liquid. Its selection of champagnes is simply fantastic, with top brands starting at 19 euros per bottle, as are its wines, not always easy to find even in a big city like Madrid, slightly envious of the French D.O. Another interesting option is the dinner-tastings which take place here, such as the one dedicated to monovarietal wines, most of them with French labels (Bourgogne, Languedoc and Bordeaux), although there is still some room for a good Rioja. All of which accompanied by products from the Terroir. Find out more at [email protected] about this and other themed dinner proposals.

Quite a few French restaurants have opened in Madrid recently, all of which quite mignon. One of them is Les Mauvais Garçons, on Calle de la Madera, 36, which serves delights such as eggs en cocotte with fresh foie gras or Gers duck tartare. Average price per person: 30 euros. Following a more classic line and perhaps slightly pompous is Brasserie Antoinette, considered by some to be a part of Paris in the heart of Preciados. The restaurant has an elegant decoration and serves food of an excellent reputation at reasonable prices, with an average price per person à la carte of 40 euros. Small tables, of course, and a reputation for making an excellent beef bourguignon.

La Guinguette, on Calle Segovia, 13, is an unpretentious place which is ideal to enjoy a nice glass of wine accompanied by a delicious assortment of the best cheeses. Its owner, Tomás de Avignon, provides the necessary French touch to escape from Spanish tapas for a night. Affordable prices, at approximately 15 euros per person, and a short menu focused especially on cheeses and patés. Located in the heart of La Latina, this place is ideal for a light and casual dinner prior to going for drinks in the streets nearby.
