Madrid kicks off the month of February with the third edition of Madrid Design Festival, an international event born in 2018 to position the Spanish capital as a referent in the world of design in the broadest sense, including everything from architecture to communications.madridlogodesign

This festival was born from the changing times the city is living, with the rise of technology and the need to reduce contamination and curb climate change. Thus, with a call to “redesign the world” Madrid Design Festival opened its doors for the first time in 2018. This month will be its third birthday and it aims to celebrate many more.

This year’s edition includes more than 290 activities with more than 400 professionals participating. There are activities for all tastes and all audiences, always with the goal of boosting industrial design, which is the main theme of this year’s edition.

Among the most notable activities this year is the exhibition Nature Morte by Patricia Urquiola, which combines handicraft and industry in Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa; a prediction by IKEA of what homes will look like in 2030 in the Palacio de Santa Bárbara; or, for those who prefer to turn their gaze to the past, the Archaeological Museum offers guided tours of its exhibition Designs for the future: the first objects designed by human beings.

These are only some of the activities, but there are many more in wide range of places (Tabacalera, COAM, Cerralbo Museum, the Garment Museum, etc.) and all the information is available on the Festival’s website.

This year’s guest city is Turin, which is in the foothills of the Alps and was named a creative city by UNESCO in 2014. This city will also present its calendar of international events related to the world of design which will take place throughout 2020.
