Treat yourself this Christmas

The bikini challenge has to come from somewhere to make the most of these days and eat as much as you like in restaurants where you can eat plenty. One of them is Casa Juan, a classic of large gastronomic sessions where you can choose from three different menus ranging from 30 to 50 euros per person. They include starters, cold cuts, Iberian ham, foie gras and a large piece of meat that you can cook yourself on a hot stone. This restaurant has large dining rooms with a simple decor and a charming and cosy atmosphere, located in the north of Madrid. Nearby is Asador Donostiarra, another emblematic spot for fine dining, especially if you love meat. Make sure you order their delicious T-bone steak or any of their exquisite fish dishes, especially its popular bream.

Another traditional restaurant is Conbarro, which they say serves the best fish platters in the city. Make sure you try its oysters, prepared with black pepper and lemon; the octopus or the onion gratin. Its most critical clients say that it has seen better days and that other restaurants such as O Pazo and Rafa have overtaken it in terms of quality. In any case, these are three excellent options to enjoy a fantastic Galician-style meal.

Let’s not forget about Zalacaín, a classic prestigious restaurant which has opened its doors after a renovation which lasted a few months. Bright lines and grey metal tones have rejuvenated this traditional Basque-cuisine eatery. Its tasting menu is highly tempting, with eleven dishes which include three appetisers and eight à la carte dishes for 90 euros or 127 euros, VAT included, if you want wine with it.

Viridiana is the cherry on the cake, the restaurant of chef Abraham García which has been open for 40 years, loyal to its idea of cuisine: “Tasty, rotund and off beat”. Some of its best dishes are the boar and venison tenderloin with foie gras, the rack of lamb stewed in vanilla or the famous “King’s Cake” with Pedro Ximénez.
