The Salamanca neighbourhood is one of the wealthiest in the city of Madrid. Home to the Golden Mile, this area has become very popular over the years, attracting tourists interested in luxury brands, shops and fashionable locations.

It was the greatly influential Marquis of Salamanca who wanted this neighbourhood to be designed for the nobility. In fact, this is where he had his mansion, now the headquarters of the BBVA foundation.

Taking advantage of Madrid’s growth, this area was inspired by Paris at the end of the 19th century, with impressive and majestic palaces and buildings.

Since then, it has continuously invested in improvements to maintain the status of the streets, with wide pavements for strolling and immaculate façades.

Today, the Callejón de Jorge Juan and the two adjoining streets have become one of the most fashionable leisure areas in Madrid.

For those who want to indulge themselves, we recommend the following:

  1. Amazónico. This restaurant is located on Calle Jorge Juan. The exotic décor makes you feel as if you are in the middle of the Amazon, offering a unique experience. The menu is very varied, with fusion and avant-garde cuisine. It has a tasting menu for €92 per person.
  2. La Giralda. This is one of the oldest restaurants in the area, offering traditional Andalusian cuisine. It has an entrance on Calle Claudio Coello and the back of the restaurant overlooks the pedestrian area, which serves as a terrace. It is the ideal place to enjoy some fried anchovies or a delicious adobo.
  3. Lobito de Mar. Located on Calle Jorge Juan, this restaurant belongs to chef Dani García’s group. As its name suggests, it brings the flavour of the sea to all its dishes, with a fresh and different touch.
  4. El Paraguas. Next to La Giralda, this is also one of the most traditional restaurants in the area. It has a very varied menu of traditional and modern cuisine, with recipes that are executed to an exquisite level and definitely worth trying!
