A megalopolis like Madrid has to be full of charming places, of places that are worth visiting and that type of establishment that has a long history and is already part of the legend.

Today with this article we are going to lead you, the reader, on a wonderful walk around Madrid. You will visit the most charming cafes of the capital of Spain, full of the history of the city, cafés that were the meeting place for intellectuals and artists since before the Spanish Civil War.

Our journey has to begin by the Café Gijón necessarily located in the Paseo de Recoletos number 21. More than a café, it is an institution, in its 123 years of life it has become a true home for culture. Founded in 1888, its tables have been used by authors, politicians, writers, artists, actors, etc.

Several books of the Spanish literature recall the influence of the Café Gijón in earlier times, such as From Gijón to Café Gijón by Antonio Valdes Granados.

Continuing our route, we find ourselves in the Glorieta de Bilbao 7 inside the  Café Comercial, another site for lovers of history.

In Luisa Fernanda 23 we will find el Café de Viena, another mythical location, that like the La Mayorquina, a café and bakery situated in Puerta del Sol, has been witness to many New Year Celebrations under the clock of Puerta del Sol.
